When Ock Soon Lee's, (Pega's) memoirs were first published on August 28, 2013, her desire was to give 10% of all proceeds towards drilling for fresh water. Pega has a heart for those who struggle every day to find and carry water. As a young child, she carried water daily on her head for the family she served as their slave. Today, throughout the world, millions of people must still carry water for survival. Most times the water is contaminated - shared with local cattle -but this is all that is available to the people of the village. In today's world, a child dies from a water-related disease every 20 seconds!
Soon after her memoirs began selling, Pega had a change of heart and decided that the first 100% of the proceeds would be used to drill the first well. Within six weeks, she had enough money to drill that well. Pega continues to donate 100% of honorariums and free will offerings towards drilling wells in third world countries. In addition, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of her memoirs continues to be directed to Women of the Wells in order to provide clean, fresh water to children and families throughout the world.
AS OF JANUARY 2017
FIFTEEN WELLS HAVE BEEN COMMISSIONED.
